MARLBOROUGH WINE REGION

The Better Half Wines are grown and made in Marlborough, at the top of New Zealand’s South Island but the bottom of the world and the edge of the earth.

It’s the place that put our tiny South Pacific nation on the world wine map.

WHERE IS MARLBOROUGH WINE REGION?

Marlborough sits at the top of the South Island, with the Southern Ocean lapping on its eastern coast.

It is protected to the south by the Inland Kaikoura ranges and to the north by the sheltered inlets of the Marlborough Sounds

GROWING GRAPES IN MARLBOROUGH

TWSBMachine

Marlborough is a great place to grow grapes and make wine.

The local Maori name for the region is “Kei Puta Te Wairau” or “hole in the clouds”, referring to its sensational amount of sunshine year-round.

Varied terrain and diverse sites give Marlborough wines a beautifully wide array of flavors.

The wild Southern Ocean crashes on our shores bringing cool breezes and a coastal climate – great for developing intense flavor whilst retaining juicy freshness in the wines.

The Southern Valleys sub-region is an amazing home for Pinot Noir. The more sheltered sites and clay soils provide ideal conditions for this temperamental grape.
